About Minnesota Chill Foundation

The MN CHILL Foundation, a 501(c)3, is a non-profit organization dedicated to making a difference through implementing innovative initiatives and funding life-changing programs. Our vision is to make a positive global impact in youth by galvanizing community leaders and engaging a collective community to address critical needs affecting our future generations. The foundation has remained busy in touching the lives of thousands of young people throughout the Metro Area.  

2022 Program Highlights

Community Service:

  • Provided 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies for students at Zanewood in Brooklyn Park (500) and Benjamin Mays in St Paul (500)
  • Sponsored the Brooklyn Park Juneteenth celebration by providing youth activities and games (received an award from Brooklyn Park) where 800 community members participated

Chill Fitness for Kids:

  • Provided 577 scholars with Chill Fitness for Kids health and fitness programming at the 6-week CDF Freedom Schools at Hazel Park (266) and Capitol Hill / Rondo Education Building (311)
  • Currently providing 41 scholars with Chill Fitness for Kids health and fitness programming at Benjamin Mays and Capitol Hill / Rondo Education Building for the 7-month after school Freedom Schools Express program

Minnesota Chill Basketball / College Readiness

  • 43 student-athletes (4 teams) participated in the Minnesota Chill spring/summer Basketball program
  • Provided mentoring and tutoring to student-athletes for success in college and beyond - 1 Mn Chill player (David Roddy) leveraged his scholarship at Colorado State and was drafted 23 into the NBA
  • Provided financial management and student-athlete information sessions to prepare student-athletes and parents for college entry
  • Took 20 players on a tour of HBCU Morehouse College, (also Clark and Spellman Colleges) and historical sites at Martin Luther King’s Historical Park, Ebenezer Baptist Church, and Georgia State University.

Chill Tech Program

Planning and implementation of our Chill Tech Program – a 6-week, paid internship giving our scholars hands-on training with a computer technician to address hardware and software issues. The program includes:

  • Best practices in troubleshooting to identify and diagnose issues
  • Product knowledge, including Mac and PC hardware and software
  • Customer service skills and addressing the needs of clients in a professional manner
  • Introduction to Computer programming languages
  • Upon completion, scholars will be able to keep their laptops

College Readiness & Basketball Program

It includes:

  • Financial Preparation & Management: Exploring financial options; scholarships, loans, FAFSA; investments, credit, and saving; tax benefits and retirement plan borrowing; maintaining a bank account and budgeting
  • College Test Prep: pretesting and tutoring for PSAT, SAT, ACT
  • College Application Assistance: Essays, resumes, supplements, ins and outs of applications, Common App or Coalition App
  • College Admissions Guidance: researching colleges and finding the best fit, 6 annual colleges with a focus on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, making decision once admitted, adjusting to and thriving in college, building time management skills
  • Sports in College: competing in more national tournaments to maximize athletic scholarship opportunities, connect with college coaches, understand NCAA guideline changes and application process
  • Continuing our health and fitness programming for CDF Freedom schools and Freedom Schools Express
  • Providing scholarships for youth spring and summer basketball programming and academic tutoring.
  • CHILL Fitness for Kids provides K-12th graders with activities focusing on creating a healthier lifestyle.

Chill Fitness for Kids Program

It includes:

  • Fitness training activities & goal setting
  • Mindfulness activities & mental health awareness
  • Healthy behaviors coaching & nutrition education
  • Connecting families to services to address food insecurity
  • Parent CHILL Nights to build community with families, better understand needs and lead them through the Restorative Practice Circle process
