Marcus Hill is Building What Once Built Him

FROM THE MINNESOTA CHILL FOUNDATION TEAM

Marcus Hill grew up right here in Brooklyn Park. He played at Central Park, joined youth programs through Park and Rec, and became the kind of young leader those programs were designed to shape. Years later, he returned — not just to give back, but to create something that would change the future for kids coming up behind him.

After serving as Facility Director at the Martin Luther King Rec Center in Saint Paul, Marcus took the opportunity to come home and lead as Parks and Facilities Manager for the City of Brooklyn Park. His dream? To create a space for teens in the city that raised him — something he didn’t have, but always needed.

Now, he’s managing the development of Brooklyn Park’s first-ever Youth Center, a $10 million project called The Wood that will serve generations of young people with programs in sports, tech, workforce development, mentorship, and more.

At the “State of the City” address for Brooklyn Park on April 8th, Mayor Hollies Winston acknowledged Marcus’s leadership and vision, making it clear this project wouldn’t have happened without him.

Marcus Hill is a living example of what it means to come home and make a difference — to lead from the heart, and to leave a legacy that will outlive your job title.
