FROM THE MINNESOTA CHILL FOUNDATION TEAM

The CHILL Tech Program is a 10-week training initiative that will provide two cohorts of 16- to 24-year-olds with the opportunity to work alongside IT professionals and certified technicians, learning:

– Introduction to Information Technology (IT), including:
   – IT roles and responsibilities
   – Project management
   – Software development
   – Artificial intelligence
   – Cybersecurity
   – Social media marketing
   – Break fix/help desk software and hardware troubleshooting

Participants will also learn the best practices in troubleshooting to identify and diagnose issues. They will gain product knowledge, including Mac and PC hardware and software, as well as customer service skills to address clients’ needs professionally. The program also includes site visits to local IT companies. Upon completion, scholars will keep the laptops used for hardware troubleshooting and repair, receive a certificate of completion, and a $500 stipend to jumpstart their career.

Purpose

The purpose of an lT support course is to address the underrepresentation of minorities in the tech industry. This course aims to provide equal opportunities for people of color to gain skills and knowledge in lT support, which can lead to better job prospects and career advancement. The primary goal of an lT support course is to prepare participants for entry-level positions in the lT industry.

Objectives

Participants in the program will:
– Receive an introduction to IT (covering roles, project management, software development, AI, etc.)
– Gain hands-on experience by building or repairing their own computer
– Apply learned skills in a real-world setting
– Receive a certificate of completion upon finishing the course
